AHHHHH!! So, I don’t always make it known, but I am a super big Homestuck fan. The cosplay fandom is just so creative, and I LOVE seeing what they come up with! This Kurloz is just so cool!!!!! The makeup and costume design are just so spectacular. Just look at it. So enthralling! Loving the crossover with Nightmare Before Christmas. Amazing job, keep up the great work!!

As much as it’s been hilarious to follow the complete self-destruction of the convention only a few steps from my door, I am also incredibly embarrassed and sad for those that actually attended and were so grievously disappointed, and even scammed at this point. My best friend and I have always joked that one day we’d create a convention after our years of con-going and booth work, and honestly, I’m only more motivated now.
It’s still a shock at just how horribly run and executed this convention was. I’m ashamed as a cosplayer, as a fan, and as a con-goer. How could something so bad get so far? I work in a professional industry where we have bi-annual conventions, and my good friends at work are the conventions team. Reading through these Dashcon posts put up EVERY red flag there is, ESPECIALLY related to contract management. If there is anything I have learned at my job (and there are many things), it is that your contract is everything. The joke of a scam with the $17,000, if not already an outright scam for cash, is a blatant example of someone not reading a LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT. The immaturity here is just baffling. Honestly. I could go on for so long about the mismanagement and completely unrealistic goals.
I feel as though I am running for Tumblr office when I say this, but if I found the support for rectifying the horrible damage done here for Tumblr and for conventions in general, I would do my best to make a convention that is realistic, affordable, and something that could actually find life and longevity in our community.
I’m also not insane enough to think I could do this completely on my own. I have many friends in the convention industry, and I would consult each and every one of them along the way to ensure that as many gaps are filled as possible. It’s been mentioned in a reply to this, so I just wanted to point out that, yes, we would not embark on an adventure of this proportion without a map, a compass, or a ship. That would make us pretty bad sailors.
Not to mention I can have the best “campaign” slogan: “At least it’s not Dashcon.”*
*Not actually a legitimate slogan. :P
Do you wanna go kill Snowman?
It doesn’t have to be just Snowman.
